OAK, CHINAPIN
Quercus muehlenbergii
. Native. This is a slower growing large, long lived native oak. It tolerates drought, poor drainage, clay soil, and salt. It has good fall color. This tree is enjoyed for its unusual non-typical oak leaves. They are many lobed, small with needle like tips. The acorns are small and born on a short stalk of two.

OAK, HILLS, or NORTHERN PIN OAK,
Quercus ellipsoidalis. Native. A slower growing, large oak of good longevity, it is a pyramidal, like its relative, the Pin Oak, but it is more tolerant of clay, salt and poor drainage. It has good fall color.

OAK, SWAMP or WHITE,
Quercus bicolor
. Native. This is a tall, moderately fast growing, long lived tree. It can withstand salt, alkaline soil, poor drainage and drought. It is the native oak that is most tolerant of wet areas. It has a yellow to brown fall color. It prefers full sun.

WALNUT, BLACK
Juglans nigra. Native. This is a tall, moderately fast growing, long lived tree. It is tolerant of salt, clay, poor drainage and drought. It prefers full sun and good garden soil. It is easy to transplant and it will reseed itself if left undisturbed. You should be wary when planting under a black walnut tree. The tree roots poison some other plants.
