The Arts

The Arts in Palos Park

Palos Park has a long history with the arts. Today volunteer organizations add to the culture, history and strength of our village with their activities, events, and scholarships. Tireless volunteers preserve the Palos Park heritage through art and history. Support their efforts.

Log Cabin Center for the ArtsLog Cabin Center for the Arts

The classes at the Log Cabin Center for the Arts encourage and train participants to grow and communicate through the artistic process, blending fine art and folk art in the special holistic atmosphere of The Center. Classes feature hands-on opportunity for creativity and the development of skills as students learn both the techniques and joys of artistic expression. The Center’s woods and farm are used as a source of inspiration and as a source of materials for many of the classes. The Log Cabin believes in the therapeutic benefits of creativity and in the celebration of beautiful expression. Instructors are prepared to work with both experienced artists and newcomers. McCord after he obtained obtained the land in 1834, the home stayed in the original family for well over 100 years. Today, the home is used as a focal point for the artists in the general Palos community. Palos Park had developed as an artist’s community in the early 20th century, and it is fitting that the home now serves as a focal point to the McCord Gallery and Cultural Center.  mccordgallery.org

Palos Fine Arts

Founded in 1984, the Palos Fine Arts Association is organized to integrate the arts into community life by providing culturally-based programs and supporting artistic goals and achievements. Offerings include art exhibitions, concerts, dance and other artistic endeavors. Also sponsored is the article “Arts and About” appearing monthly in The Regional newspaper. Each spring, scholarships are awarded to students pursuing higher education in art-related fields. Teaming with Moraine Valley Community College Fine and Performing Arts Center and the Robert F. DeCaprio Art Gallery has enabled the Association to expand its vistas and audiences. Support for its programming comes from pledges and memberships by individuals, families and businesses from the Palos, Orland and surrounding areas. Benefits to members include invitations to events and receptions, discounts on tickets and a newsletter. Palos Park Fine Arts Association, 8901 West 123rd Street, Palos Park, IL 60464. Palos Village Players

The Palos Village Players was founded in 1941 as an entertainment club for the village and area of Palos Park. Zay Smith, a resident architect and his wife and a few friends met to read plays. This was during the war and a way to bring the Arts to the area. In the spring of 1942 they decided to produce their first play. It was “The Torchbearers”. Zay and LeMay Smith remained active with the group into the 1970’s. We have produced plays nearly every year since that time. There was a time in the early 1960’s when the Village Hall was not available and the group was forced to bounce from venue to venue to produce their plays.
