E-Waste Ban
As of January 1st, the Illinois
Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act went
into effect. The law bans all electronics from going
into landfills as these products contain hazardous
material. According to the Illinois Environmental
Protection Agency, the law “establishes a statewide
system for recycling and/or reusing computers,
monitors, televisions, and printers discarded from
residents by requiring electronic manufacturers to
participate in the management of discarded and
unwanted electronic products”. Once the law goes
into effect, Allied Waste will no longer be able to
pick up electronic waste as part of your curbside
program. Any e-waste placed at the curb or inside
containers, will be left.
