Southwest Suburban
Montessori School opened its doors for the first time to a handful of
children in 1970. As the years have passed, we have occupied five
different sites before finally settling into our present home: a quaint
schoolhouse nestled in the woodlands of Palos Park.
We offer programs for
Toddlers (ages 2 and 3), Pre-School (ages 3 to 5) and
Kindergarten/Extended Day (ages 5 and 6). Our curriculum follows the
principles of Doctor Maria Montessori: a physician, philosopher,
educator, innovator and the founder of the Montessori child development
method. These include:
-
Respecting each
child and his ability to learn
-
Taking advantage
of the child’s absorbent mind and sensitive periods
-
Allowing children
freedom within the prepared environment
-
Tapping into each
child’s innate love of work
