Village of Palos Park FAQ’s during the COVID-19 Crisis

Is the Village Hall (Kaptur Center) open for Business?

No, however staff is still here to assist. You may call us at 708-671-3700, drop a payment or correspondence, building permit application at the temporary drop box by the front doors, the drop box on the southeast side of the Village Hall or the drop box at the Metra station. Will there be any changes to garbage service?                                                                                     

Until further notice Republic Services will be operating under the following guidelines starting March 30, 2020: We will accept cart contents or personalized cans only. Drivers will not be authorized to leave their vehicle to pick up waste outside of the cart or personal cans; yard waste and bulk waste programs will be suspended; it’s important to keep waste out of your recycling container. For questions regarding garbage services call Republic at (708) 385-8252.

I have a monthly Metra parking pass for the Palos Park station and my company has told me to work from home, can I get a refund?

Yes, mail or drop off the future months unused commuter parking permits along with you information, and a refund will be processed, the placard must be received within the first five days of the month you wish a refund; we do not prorate for a partial month.

 How can I pay my utility bill?

Payment can be made over the phone with a credit card by calling 708-671-3700 between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM during regular office hours.  A payment by check can be dropped off in drop boxes located at the METRA Station and in the Village Hall parking lot, east end.

What should I do if I am unable to pay my utility bill?

Please call the Utility Department and talk to Peggy at 708-671-3716, or Laura at 708-671-3721, to discuss payment options that fit your current situation.  Calling to make arrangements before payment is due will avoid late fees.

Will there be any increases in my utility bill due to the pandemic?

No, although you will see an increase for garbage services beginning April 1, 2020.  As of April 1, 2020 the monthly fee will be $ 21.78 and the cost per bimonthly bill will be $42.76.

How can I apply for a driveway or utility permit?

Please visit the Village web site and check the Document Center for permit applications.  Fill out the information and submit the permit along with a plat of survey that shows what work will be done.  Submittals can be done via email at publicworks@palospark.org , by mail, or can be put in Village drop boxes located at METRA and The Village Hall.  Permits can take up to four (4) days to process depending on the type of work being done, and whether all the pertinent information is included with the submittal.  You will be contacted once the information is reviewed and the permit is ready to be issued.  Payment can be made via credit card by phone, by mail, or in the Village drop boxes.  Once he permit is ready you will be contacted again to make arrangements for pick up. 

 Will our water system continue to operate?

The water system will continue without interruption

When will chipping begin?

The first chipping week begins April 13, 2020.  Please check the Village web site for further information.

Can I still obtain a building permit or plan a project that will require a permit?

Yes, please contact the Village at 708-671-3730 or go to the Village website at www.palospark.org for information.

Is the Village conducting permit inspections?

Yes, in part. Currently we are limiting our inspections to primarily exterior type inspections.

Are there still special events being held at the Village of Palos Park?

The Village of Palos Park Recreation Department has canceled all events through the end of April.

Can I rent the facilities from the Village of Palos Park Recreation Department?

Currently all facility rentals have been suspended until April 18th

Can I visit the Playground located at Village Green Park Under the Governor’s Executive Order?

Playgrounds are closed and should not be visited during the duration of the Stay at Home Order.

Can I visit other parks facilities?

The Village’s walking paths, forest trails and open spaces are open for use while social distancing is maintained; this includes the Cal-Sag Trail. All non-essential facilities are closed to the public. For all program, special event, and rental information refer to our website and Facebook page (Palos Park Parks & Recreation).


All Illinois Secretary of State offices and Driver Service facilities are CLOSED to the public through April 7, 2020, due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Expiration dates for driver’s license – REALID, identification (ID) cards, vehicle registrations and other transactions and document filings will be extended 30 days after Driver Service facilities reopen. REALID deadline has been pushed to October, 2021.

The two-day AARP smart driver safety course scheduled for April 23/April 24 is canceled. However, there is a class scheduled for May 28/May 29. AARP is also offering an all online course for any smart driver participants who may not be to renew their car insurance discounts. Members can access this by visiting www.aarpdriversafety.org and using the code DRIVINGSKILLS for a special 25% off.
