Mona Purdy Share Your Soles

Mona Purdy traveled to Guatemala in April of 1999, where she entered a local half marathon race with six shoeless local youth. Running through the jungle, Mona witnessed children applying hot tar to the soles of their feet because they had no shoes to wear. On her flight home, faith intervened when she was sat next to an orthopedic surgeon who was returning from a mission trip that required him to treat children infections due largely to the lack of shoes. Mona began collecting shoes in the driveway of her Palos Park home and Share Your Soles was born.
